Description: Steam activated carbon can be supplied either from China, produced from bituminous coal, or from Sri Lanka where production is from coconut shells. It can be supplied in either granular or powder form.

Uses: Filter media for water, chemical and food industries.

Production Details: Following carbonization, the coal or coconut shells are "activated" by baking them in an oxygen-free environment. This process expands the surface area of the carbon by producing a multitude of pores and cracks, enabling the absorption rate of the carbon to be greatly increased.
